ADDITIONAL DETAILED VOLUNTEER POSITION INFORMATION BELOW
Please wear clothing that is business casual and comfortable. Remember, much of your day will be spent standing so good footwear would be beneficial. On the morning of the event, you will be briefed on your specific responsibilities by the Chief Casualty Simulator. You will be working as part of a team that will include a Judge(s), patient(s), and logistics person. Throughout the day, should you have any questions or concerns, the Chief Casualty Simulator will be available to assist you.
As a Casualty Simulator, you will be asked to be on-site from 08h00 until 18h00. You must agree to keep all first aid challenge scenario materials and documentation confidential; before, during, and following the event. It is also essential that you are able to identify situations (real or perceived) that could be deemed as a conflict of interest. Such situations may arise prior to the event or on the event day and must be reported immediately to the Chief Casualty Simulator for resolution.
As competitors will be judged on the care that they provide to their patients, it is expected that you have the requisite knowledge to be able to brief your patients on the symptoms that they will be expected to portray in a realistic and consistent manner. In addition, it will be your responsibility to brief your patients on how to act and behave given the circumstances of the first aid challenge scenario that they have been assigned to.
Only the use of approved casualty simulation supplies and equipment will be permitted. Home-made or unique materials may only be used with the permission of the Chief Casualty Simulator. Clothing and other disposable garments will be provided for your patients as required on the day of the event. It is your responsibility, however, to provide all other casualty simulation supplies and equipment (additional supplies may be available).
At all times, the health, safety, and welfare of your patients will remain paramount. It is essential, therefore, that you remain vigilant to any allergic reactions to the materials being used and that you ensure that your patients receive washroom breaks, meals, and refreshments as provided. Following the event, facilities will be available for your patients to clean-up. It is part of your responsibilities to assist in this process and to ensure that patients leave at the end of the day clean and appropriately dressed.
As a volunteer Casualty/Patient for this event, you will be asked to be on-site from 08h00 until 18h00. Meals and refreshments will be provided for you throughout the day.
Please wear clothing that is comfortable and appropriate to the weather. Depending on the scenario that you will be acting in, you may be provided specific items to wear at the event. Upon your arrival you will be briefed by your Casualty Simulator on what acting is required of you. This may include everything from saying and doing nothing (being unconscious), to exhibiting specific symptoms such as moaning in pain, etc. Your Casualty Simulator, who will be with you and helping you throughout the day, is a volunteer who has specialized training in make-up, simulated wounds, and the signs and symptoms of injuries and illnesses.
You may be required to lay or sit in certain positions for long periods of time while the competitors care for you. It is important that you are able to do so and that you do not have any physical restrictions that would cause you any pain or discomfort. Each first aid challenge scenario that you will be acting in will last for approximately twenty minutes and then it will be repeated for the next set of competitors. Between each scenario, however, you will have time to rest, go to the washroom, or have a snack and some refreshments. All-in-all, you will be acting in the same scenario repeated five to six times throughout the day.
The first aid challenge scenarios are done in simulated settings with props and other equipment being used to make these settings as realistic as possible. This is similar to any movie, stage, or theatrical production. If you are disturbed by viewing accident scenes where people have been injured, then, perhaps, you may be better suited to another volunteer role.
Part of the casualty simulation procedure will require that you wear theatrical make-up. All of the materials used are of professional, theatrical-grade design (grease paints, plasticized wounds, artificial blood, etc.) and are generally considered hypo-allergenic. If, however, you have any skin or other allergies, you should discuss this with the Chief Casualty Simulator prior to registering to act as a patient for this event (there may be other positions that you could volunteer to assist us with).
As a Judge at this event, you will be asked to be on-site from 08h00 until 18h00. Meals and refreshments will be provided for you throughout the day.
Please wear clothing that is comfortable, appropriate to the weather, and appropriate for the function(s) that you have volunteered for. Remember, most of your day will be spent standing so good footwear would be beneficial. If it is appropriate for you to wear your organization’s uniform, you will be notified of this prior to the event.
On the morning of the event, you will be briefed on your specific responsibilities by the Chief Judge. You will be working as part of a team that will include a Casualty Simulator, patient(s), and logistics person. Throughout the day, should you have any questions or concerns, the Chief Judge will be available to assist you.
As a Judge, you must agree to keep all first aid challenge scenario materials and documentation confidential; before, during, and following the event. It is also essential that you are able to identify situations (real or perceived) that could be deemed as a conflict of interest. Such situations may arise prior to the event or on the event day and must be reported immediately to the Chief Judge for resolution.
Marking Guides will be based on the principles of first aid and not, necessarily, on specific treatments. It is expected, therefore, that you have the requisite knowledge of first aid theory and skills, as well as experience, to fairly and impartially judge competitors on the care that they provide. The official reference for the Youth, Adult and Advanced categories will be all material found in the St. John Ambulance – The Complete Guide to First Aid and CPR – First on the Scene text. The official reference for the Advanced category will be all material found in the St. John Ambulance – The Complete Guide to First Aid and CPR – First on the Scene text and the St. John Ambulance – Medical First Responder Student Manual.

This will, however, be determined well in advance of the event and will be based on your availability. Meals and refreshments will be provided for you throughout the day.
Please wear clothing that is comfortable, appropriate to the weather, and appropriate for the function that you have volunteered for.
As a member of the Logistic Team is it important that you are in good physical condition as some lifting, carrying, and other activities will be required in regard to the setting-up and tearing-down of the first aid challenge scenario sites. These activities occur on the day prior to the event as well as throughout the entire day while the first aid challenge scenarios are occurring. In addition, part of your responsibilities will also include the setting-up and tearing-down of other areas of the event facilities. Should you have any physical disabilities or restrictions that may prevent you from volunteering as a member of the Logistics Team, please ensure that you identify these on the Registration Form (other volunteer positions may be available to you).
