Many of these changes are a reflection of the direct input received from St. John Ambulance volunteers and staff from across the province.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#1.\">1. Team Composition <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#2.\">2. Team Registration<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#3.\">3. Spare Competitors<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#4.\">4. Coaches<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#5.\">5. Competition Categories, Ages &amp; Qualification<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#6.\">6. Standards<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#7.\">7. Equipment &amp; Supplies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#8.\">8. Casualties<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#9.\">9. Clothing\/Dress<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#10.\">10. Scoring<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#11.\">11. Procedures<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#12.\">12. Outcomes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>1.<a name=\"1.\"><\/a>Team Composition<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Participation in the Ontario Medical First Response Competitions is open to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SJA Community Services Medical First Responder (MFR) Members<\/li>\n<li>SJA Community Services Search and Rescue (SAR) Members<\/li>\n<li>SJA Campus Response Teams (CRT) Members<\/li>\n<li>SJA Car Seat Technicians<\/li>\n<li>SJA Therapy Dog Members (<em>competing Therapy Dog members are not permitted to bring their dog(s) with them during the competition<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>SJA Adult Members<\/li>\n<li>SJA Youth Members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since 2023, Teams entering these Competitions must be comprised of (2) two competitors who meet the requirements as specified in this document. In addition, teams may include an optional spare competitor (see below) who meets the same requirements.<\/p>\n<p>All competitors must be bona fide members of St. John Ambulance. Competitors must be registered members of the <em>Unit<\/em> for which they are competing. Transfer of membership between Units for the purposes of competing is not permitted. Proof of membership may be required prior to (Registration Form) or, on the day of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The specific definition of what constitutes a\u00a0<em>Unit,<\/em> due to an extenuating circumstance, will be at the sole discretion of the Ontario Council Competitions Committee Chair based on the situation presented at the time of a Team Registration is being made.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>2. <a name=\"2.\"><\/a>Team Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>All forms and documents are found on this official Competitions website and may be downloaded for either electronic or hard copy submission. Teams eligible for the Provincial Competition (must have placed in 1<sup>st<\/sup> place in their category within their Regional Area Competition) or by invitation by the Chairman of the Provincial Competition Committee, based on Provincial Competition scheduling capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Teams are encouraged to identify additional volunteers such as casualties, Judges, and Casualty Simulators. This is not a requirement of registration. Names and contact coordinates (email address(es), telephone number(s) are to be forwarded to the Competition Committee and, if selected, these volunteers will be provided with the necessary documentation for their participation.\u00a0 Teams are being asked to provide (2) two additional volunteers to act as casualties.\u00a0 These individuals are not required to be active members of St. John but would be required to be Auxiliary Members of St. John under the Competition Group.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>For the Regional Area Competition<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The number of teams a Community Services Unit may submit in each Competitions Category will be determined by each Regional Area Lead.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">For the Regional Area Competition, team registration by the eligible teams will require registration by Google Form (register.omfrc.ca) and will be provided to Zone Leads.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Compliance with all registration requirements including the correct completion and submission of all forms<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The decision of the Chair of the Competition Committee OMFRC Committee Chairperson is final and binding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Successfully registered teams will be notified following the closing date for team registration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Concerns regarding competition times should be brought to the Regional Area Lead&#8217;s attention. Where possible Zone Leads will work with teams for those that are required to travel significant distances.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u00a0<\/span>Deadlines are:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Regional Area Team Registration Deadline: March 6, 2026<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Date of Regional Area Competition: Saturday April 25, 2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"291\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>For the Provincial Competition<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"291\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Teams eligible for registration must have placed in 1<sup>st<\/sup> place at their Regional Area level; or by invitation by the Chair of the Competition Committee, based on Provincial Competition scheduling and\/or a team&#8217;s ranking across the Province.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Final registration acceptance is at the sole discretion of Chair of the Competition Committee and will be based upon, but not limited to:\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring Balanced representation of all Regional Areas across the province<\/li>\n<li>Maximum number of teams permitted due to logistical requirements<\/li>\n<li>Compliance with all registration requirements including the correct completion and submission of all forms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The decision of the Chair of the Competition Committee is final and binding<\/li>\n<li>Successfully registered teams will be notified following the closing date for team registration.\u00a0 Concerns regarding competition times should be brought to the Competition Committee attention. Where possible the Competition committee will work with teams for those that are required to travel significant distances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"291\"><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Deadlines are:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">TBA: For the Provincial Competition, submission of Intent to compete and deposit by the eligible teams.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Date of Provincial Competition: Tentatively Saturday, October 17, 2026<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>Late submission and\/or incomplete forms\/documents will disqualify a team from competing.\u00a0 If time permits, teams may be contacted in an effort to correct incomplete forms or documents.\u00a0\u00a0 NO extension to the final submission date will be permitted regardless of the cause(s).<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong>03. <a name=\"3.\"><\/a> Spare Competitors<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Teams may (highly recommended) include a spare competitor.\u00a0 Spare competitors must be registered at the same time and on the same form as the competing team. Substitutions (using the team\u2019s registered spare competitor) may be made prior to the morning of the event by notifying the Competition Committee.\u00a0 On the morning of the event, substitutions (using the team\u2019s registered spare competitor) may be made at the registration desk.\u00a0 Once the competing teams are sequestered in their secure holding area(s), substitutions (using the team\u2019s registered spare competitor) may be made only under extenuating circumstances and only with the approval of the Chief Judge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>i. Spare competitors will remain sequestered with their teams throughout the event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>ii. A competitor who has been replaced by the team\u2019s spare after the event has commenced will be escorted from the secure holding area(s) and will become a member of the spectator gallery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>iii. Use of the team\u2019s registered spare competitor will not be permitted to correct any breach of these rules which occurs prior to the start of this event or is identified during the event. Extenuating circumstances, once the event has commenced, will not include a competitor\u2019s disqualification due to a breach of these rules<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>iv. The specific definition of what constitutes an extenuating circumstance will be at the sole discretion of the Chief Judge.<\/p>\n<p>v. Authorized use of the team&#8217;s registered spare competitor at the Regional Area Competition can revert back to the the spare competitor at the Provincial Competition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>04. <a name=\"4.\"><\/a><strong>Coaches<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Coaches are encouraged to be with their teams during the briefing session. Following that, and once the competitors have been sequestered in their secure holding area(s), team Coaches may choose to:<\/p>\n<p>a. stay sequestered with their team and accompany them to the various scenario sites. Coaches will not be permitted to communicate with their team members until they return to the secure holding area. If at any time throughout the competition the Coach decides to leave the secure holding area, they will become a member of the spectator gallery and will not be permitted re-entry to the secure hold area.<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>b. be a member of the spectator gallery. Coaches will not be permitted entry into the secure holding area at any time throughout the competition nor will they be permitted to communicate with their team.<\/p>\n<div><strong>05. <a name=\"5.\"><\/a>Competition Categories<\/strong><\/div>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"121\"><strong>CATEGORIES<\/strong><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"240\"><strong>AGES<\/strong><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"264\"><strong>QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"121\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Youth<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"240\">Eleven (11) to Fifteen (15) years of age in the year of competition**<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"264\">Standard First Aid <em>CPR C<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"121\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Adult Standard<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"240\">At least Sixteen (16) years of age as of April 25 2026<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"264\">Standard First Aid <em>CPR C<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"121\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Adult Advanced<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"240\">At least Sixteen (16) years of age of April 25 2026<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"264\">Advanced Medical First Responder CPR HCP\/BLS<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"121\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>Adult Professional<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"240\">Eighteen (18) years of age,\u00a0 as of April 25 2026.<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"264\">\n<p>Advanced Medical First Responder CPR HCP\/BLS<\/p>\n<p>The composition of an Adult Professional team <strong>must include at least one<\/strong> competing Health Care Professional or Emergency First Responder Professional in the make-up of the competing team at all times.<br \/>The team would be disqualified from competing, should it lose this composition (should a team member withdraw making, in effect, an Adult Advanced team.).<br \/>The remaining team members and\/or the (optional) spare must be Adult Advanced\u00a0 Level .<\/p>\n<div>Community Service Units shall only be allowed to register one Adult Professional team comprised of a single Professional member.<\/div>\n<div>A &#8220;competing team&#8221; does not refer to the Spare, unless the Spare is authorized to replace a member of the &#8220;competing team&#8221;.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<div>\n<p>i. Competitors may be required to produce proof-of-age and\/or certification either prior to (Registration Form) or, on the day of the event and shall not hold certification higher than the category permits.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>ii. Competitors under the age of (18) eighteen as of the day of the event WILL REQUIRE parental\/guardian consent to participate and MUST BE accompanied by their Youth Leader.\u00a0 Forms are available online and are to be submitted in advance of the competition day.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>iii. \u201cHealth Care Professional\u201d includes anyone licensed or registered by a professional health care body or College.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>iv. \u201cEmergency First Responder\u201d includes anyone (full-time, part-time, volunteer) who is a firefighter, police officer, paramedic, military medic, mine rescue technician, or industrial first aider, or marine first aid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>06. <a name=\"6.\"><\/a>Standards<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>The official reference for the Youth Category and the Adult Standard Category will be all material found in the St. John Ambulance \u2013 First Aid Reference Guide text. Resuscitation will be evaluated at CPR Level C.<\/p>\n<p>The official reference for the Adult Advanced Category and the Adult Professional Category will be all material found in the St. John Ambulance \u2013 First Aid Reference Guide text and the St. John Ambulance \u2013 Medical First Responder Student Manual. Resuscitation will be evaluated at CPR Level HCP.<\/p>\n<p>Any supplements to either of the above, printed and in use two or more months prior to the event, may be used as the standard upon which the first aid scenarios are based and judged.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will be conducted in English.<\/p>\n<div><strong>07. <a name=\"7.\"><\/a>Equipment and Supplies<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>For the Regional Area Competition<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Competing teams are required to supply their own first aid kits (two kits per team):<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Advanced Adult\/ PRO Teams &#8211; permits up to Two Trauma Bags and up to Two Oxygen Kits to be used by a team; their contents not to exceed the lists provided.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Competitors are not permitted to carry on their person any first aid equipment or supplies.\u00a0 All first aid equipment and supplies must be contained in the team\u2019s first aid kits.\u00a0 Competitors may wear a personal &#8216;scissor holster&#8217; which may only contain: 1 pair of scissors, 1 Penlight, 1 Pen and gloves.\u00a0 Adult Advanced and Professional team member participants may being and carry their own stethoscope (optional).<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Competing teams must ensure that they have a sufficient supply of authorized supplies and equipment so as to be able to restock their first aid kits between competition scenarios.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"348\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Competitors may only use:<\/span>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">a. the first aid equipment and supplies found on the authorized kit lists (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stjohnonline.ca\/manuals\/forms\/PatientCareRecordFormV5b2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patient Care Form &#8211; design, casualties will be made-up using casualty simulation theatrical make-up and other supplies. While casualties are briefed on the symptoms that they are expected to portray, variations may occur and under such circumstances the Judge(s) will intervene and advise the competitors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The age and gender of the casualties will be matched to the requirement of the first aid scenarios as best as can be achieved. Any variations will be communicated to the competitors by the Judge(s) at the start of each scenario.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>During a first aid scenario, a competitor may be designated as a casualty (in addition to the simulated casualty provided). Under such circumstances, the (casualty) competitor must follow the directions of the Judge and not assist their fellow competitors in any manner other than as allowed for by the first aid scenario design.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>09. <a name=\"9.\"><\/a>Clothing<\/strong><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Competitors are required to wear their approved uniform while competing.\u00a0 Individual <em>team uniforms<\/em> are not permitted.<\/li>\n<li>First aid scenarios may take place in outdoor (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">regardless of weather conditions<\/span>) and\/or indoor environments.\u00a0 Competitors must ensure that they have appropriate clothing (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">with them at the time of registration<\/span>) for the weather conditions on the day of the event.<\/li>\n<li>Competitors will not be permitted to wear or carry anything other than their personal clothing.\u00a0 Competitors are not permitted to have in their possession, at any time throughout the event day, any communications devices such as, but not limited to:\u00a0 cell Phones, smart watches, tablets, computers, two-way radios, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div><strong>10. <a name=\"10.\"><\/a>Scoring<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>i. Competitors will be judged based on their application of the principles of first aid assessment and treatment within their category.<\/p>\n<p>ii. Competitors may also be judged on other skills and knowledge such as, but not limited to: appropriate risk-taking, critical thinking, ingenuity, leadership, improvisation, team work, etc.<\/p>\n<p>iii. In the event of a tie between teams, a tie-breaking procedure will be followed under the supervision of the Competitions Committee.<\/p>\n<div><strong>11. <a name=\"11.\"><\/a>Procedures<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>i. On the day of the event, all competitors must be signed-in at the registration desk and be ready for their briefing by 0830hrs (Regional Area Registration times may vary). Those arriving after this time, at the discretion of the Chief Judge, may be permitted to participate but will not be eligible for any awards.<\/p>\n<p>ii. Competitors must be prepared to be sequestered in a secure holding area for the duration of the event following their morning briefing session. They are encouraged to bring reading materials, playing cards, games, etc. for use during periods when they are not actively competing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>iii. Competitors must have all their personal clothing with them in the holding area (uniform, outdoor clothing, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>iv. Competitors must have personal items such as medications, etc. with them in the holding area.<\/p>\n<p>v. Competitors are not permitted to communicate in any manner with casualties, spectators, and casualty simulators, etc. following their morning briefing session. During the scenarios, however, competitors are encouraged to speak in a loud and audible voice so as to be heard by their assigned casualties and judges; but not so loud so as to be disruptive to other competitors.<\/p>\n<p>vi. During the first aid scenarios, judges may ask for clarification if the competitors\u2019 actions are not readily understood. Judges will not, however, provide any additional information to competitors nor answer any questions except as allowed for by the scenario design.<\/p>\n<div><strong>12. <a name=\"12.\"><\/a>Outcomes<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>i. Failure to comply with any, or all, of the above rules may, at the discretion of the\u00a0 Competitions Committee, require that a competitor or team be disqualified from competing in this event.<\/p>\n<p>ii. Teams and\/or competitors who have been disqualified will be required to leave the secure holding area(s) and will become members of the spectator gallery.<\/p>\n<p>iii. Teams and\/or competitors who have been disqualified are not eligible to receive any awards.<\/p>\n<p>iv.
